Ok, I had originally created this content for a magazine article however the magazine decided to publish another article by me so I thought you know what - I’m going to turn this into a podcast episode because I think this topic will be so appreciated so here it is. I hope you love it as much as I loved creating it!

Is there anything worse than opening your wardrobe on a scorching hot day only to realise that everything you own either leaves you flaunting sweat patches or worse yet, just seems unbearable to wear in the heat? It’s usually at this point, that you’ll end up reaching for that worn-out t-shirt dress that’s lost its shape and does absolutely nothing for your confidence. Sound familiar?

There is no better time than Summer to prioritise the way you feel, be and look because let’s be real - Summer is usually that time of the year that can often making you feel anything but … In today’s episode I’m going to take some of the guesswork out of it by ensuring you’re well equipped with the 10 Summer Staples that I believe every woman must own. They’ll help to increase the versatility of your wardrobe, allow you to create outfits almost effortlessly, remove the stress often associated with dressing and the best part, there’ll be no sweat patches in sight.

#1 A LINEN CAMISOLE

Lightweight & breathable. A linen cami can be styled casually for day or worn tucked into a pair of flowy trousers with a bold lip for night. I prefer a cami with thin straps but if you prefer a little more coverage, a linen tank top would work just as well.

#2 A COTTON SHIRT

For ultimate versatility! Wear as a cover-up over a swimsuit, tuck a thin cotton shirt into denim shorts for lunch by the beach or wear layered over a slip dress and tied at the waist to create the illusion of a top & skirt. Personally, I prefer a slightly oversized style which I usually find in the Mens section or I’ll just borrow my husbands.

#3 A SLIP MIDI DRESS

You can’t go wrong with a slip dress. They are fuss-free, work well for day & night and feel like a second skin. If a slip dress isn’t your thing, opt for any mid-length dress in a soft, flowy fabric. A thin fabric will give you more bang for your back because you’ll be able to wear it tucked into or layered over trousers without adding too much volume to the hips. I love wearing 100% silk because it feels like a second skin however understand that wearing silk in Summer isn’t everyone's cup of tea so if this is the case for you, I’d choose a midi dress made from any natural fabrics and avoid dresses made from synthetic fabrics that such as polyester or acrylic.

#4 DENIM SHORTS

A pair of denim shorts is an Aussie must! Invest in a slightly longer style that ends just above the knee to be able to style them for multiple occasions – think a café breakfast, beach day or sunset drinks.

#5 PALAZZO/ WIDE LEG TROUSERS

Think long pants are too hot for Summer? It all comes down to fabric. Choose a style that’s made from a thin, natural fabric that allows the skin to breathe such as linen, cotton and potentially rayon. They’ll make you feel like you’re floating on Cloud 9.

#6 A DENIM JACKET

You’ll only need one jacket in Summer and that’s a denim jacket. Look for a slightly oversized style that isn’t too tight & restrictive and one that is made from 100% cotton. Roll the sleeves to elbow height and you’re good to go should the breeze pick up.

#7 A ONE-PIECE SWIMSUIT

A one-piece swimsuit is classic, timeless & elegant. Better yet, they work so well doubled as a top and worn layered under denim shorts or palazzo/ wide-leg trousers.

The final 3x summer staples are accessories. The key to getting more mileage out of your wardrobe this Summer is to choose versatile accessories that mix & match with each of the clothing pieces I’ve just mentioned. Choosing a versatile colour is key here!

#8 NEUTRAL SLIDES

Whether you prefer a thin, strappy style or a slightly chunkier style, slides are here to stay! You can’t go wrong with black but I do feel that a pair of tan slides could give black a good run for its money.

#9 SUNGLASSES

Nothing elevates an outfit quite like a pair of sunglasses. Choose a style that flatters your face shape in a shade that works well with many of the colours in your wardrobe. Speaking of which, I will get to work on a blog post that tells you what sunglasses are more suited to which face shapes. For sunglasses, I actually prefer a print like tortoiseshell which tends to include a bit of black and brown so the versatility is there but it’s also a really classic print too that won’t date.

#10 STRAW BEACH BAG

Keep an eye out for a multi-toned bag or a bag that includes 1 or 2 neutral shades for increased wearability. You can’t go wrong with a mid-sized bag that includes a touch of black, tan or white.

And because I love a challenge and just love helping you as much as I possibly can, I have created a blog post to go alongside this episode which will not only give you a visual of all the staples I’ve just mentioned but I’ve gone one step further and have created 10 outfits using just these 10 summers staples.
