This season, all of the fashion episodes to date had one thing in common - they’ve all been created to help you take action on the way you look which as you already know by now, affects the way you feel. I think it’s really common for women to look at other women who present themselves well and think ‘that’s great for her but that’s not possible for me’. The reason I launched this podcast though was to debunk and unpack that type of thinking because I know what is possible for you but I also know that sometimes getting from A to B just feels too hard.

My goal for every fashion episode this season is to give you a place to start through small, actionable steps. I really hope you’ve been inspired to put some of those how-tos to good use because if you have, I know what the next chapter looks like for you and I’m telling you, you’ll kick yourself that you didn’t prioritise the way you look sooner.

If you’re a regular FEEL BE LOOK listener, by now, you will know at the very least whether you’re more suited to cool or warm colours (episode #31), you will have defined your personal style and identified your lifestyle (or currently still working on those!), you will know the benefits of having a signature look but more importantly, you’ll know now how to create one and you will have an idea about what your signature look/s could be. So what happens now?

I get it. At this point, you probably feel inspired, motivated and excited to get out there and rock your new signature look - to make it known to the world that this is how you’d like to be remembered. My advice to you though is to take it slow. Slow and steady always wins the race!

You may have realised after browsing through your wardrobe with your signature look/s in mind, that you’re missing a few elements. After working out that a pair of slouchy jeans will be part of your signature look, you may have been hit with the reality that you don’t actually own a pair of slouchy jeans or perhaps you listed sneakers as your go-to shoes but all of your sneakers have seen better days. If you’re missing certain elements and you’re in a financial position to do so, it’s time to do some online shopping (a little side note here - if you want to learn how to online shop like a pro, go back and listen to episode #13 too). Aim to own every element that makes up your signature look - for instance - a blazer, slouchy jeans, tshirt, sneakers, a crossbody bag & a bright lipstick. Once you’ve got your hands on each element, try on the full look including accessories and including hair & make-up - whatever that is for your signature look. From here, you want to experiment. Play around with the styling tweaks we mentioned in the last fashion episode (tuck in your t-shirt, roll sleeves, cuff your jeans and change the way you carry your bag). Remember that styling is a profession and doesn’t come naturally to a lot of people therefore the more your practice, the better you’ll become at it.

Also, when trying on your signature look, always ensure you're 100% happy with the way it looks and the way it makes you feel. Could slouchy jeans look good but a different style of denim might flatter your figure that little bit more? Would a cropped blazer be more versatile? Could the outfit look more effortless & relaxed by choosing a different fabric or different size t-shirt?

Continue experimenting until you are ridiculously in love with your signature look to the point where you would literally wear it every single day for the rest of your days.

Ok, once confident with your final look, aim to stock up on different variations at any given opportunity - birthdays, Christmas, Black Friday sales. Ideally, you want to be able to create a few slightly different combinations of the same look. Depending on how strict you’ve been with your look, you could consider introducing slightly different styles (eg. wide-leg jeans) or stocking up on elements in a few different colours (eg. a black, tan & bright yellow crossbody bag).

Here’s a good guide to get you started  –

  • 4 tops (one in a dark shade, light shade, a print and possibly even a colour)·

  • 3 bottoms (one in a dark shade, medium shade and light shade)

  • 2 outerwear (one that will work in Summer & one that will work in Winter)

  • 2 pairs of shoes (again, an option for Summer & Winter)

  • 2 bags (one for day and one for night)

Lastly and although this step isn’t necessary, I promise it will make a big difference when it comes to actually executing your signature look as often as possible – organise your wardrobe and make sure that all elements are located front and centre. On that note, if you need help with this - I have created a step by step, digital course called “Cull Your Wardrobe Like A Stylist’. Inside the course, you’ll find the five wardrobe culling steps required to successfully cull & organise your wardrobe exactly as a Stylist would. You’ll receive flowcharts which will help you decide whether to keep an item or part ways with it and you’ll learn my top storage and organisational ideas for all your clothes, shoes & accessories. To add to this, you’ll be given my sort after shopping list template and you’ll gain access to a stack of bonus resources to ensure you get the most wear and versatility out of your wardrobe.
